About J.C. McGowan

| J.C. (Chris) McGowan blogs for the
Huffington Post and is a science-fiction
novelist (The Big God Network) and the author of
a music study (The Brazilian Sound) and a history of interactive
media (Entertainment in the Cyber Zone). He has written about culture, politics, music, nature, and environmental issues in publications including The Huffington Post, The Los Angeles Times, L.A. Weekly, Pulse!, Los Angeles magazine, Musician, and the L.A. Reader. He was a longtime contributor to Billboard, and their first writer to extensively cover digital media. During that time, he published Entertainment in the Cyber Zone: Exploring the Interactive Universe of Multimedia (Random House, 1995). His book The Brazilian Sound: Samba, Bossa Nova & the Popular Music of Brazil (Temple University Press) is now its 3rd U.S. edition. The leading guide to Brazilian music in the English language, The Brazilian Sound has been published in a U.K. edition and translated into French, German and Japanese. McGowan has written extensively about Brazil, and has been interviewed about Brazilian music and culture by the BBC, The New York Times, AirTalk, and various National Public Radio (NPR) affiliates. He was a contributor to The Encyclopedia of Latin American History and Culture (Charles Scribner's Sons, 1996). He recently published his first novel,
The Big God Network, which explores the clash of culture and religion in
cyberspace and "post-America"; the search for extraterrestrial intelligence and
